About the artist

Flávia Darcie is a Brazilian Mezzo-Soprano based in New York City. She received her Master’s Degree in Classical Vocal Performance from New York University and her Bachelor’s in music with concentration in Conducting from FAAM, university located in São Paulo, where she was born and raised. Her musical path started at the age of ten, as a classical pianist. Her passion and curiosity for many art forms led her to explore choir and orchestral conducting, acting and singing. Later she realized that as an Opera Singer she would finally be able to unite these different means of expression.

She is a member of The Opera Collective, Dell'Arte Opera Ensemble and IBOC and was recently seen in La Traviata with City Lyric Opera and in the premiere of Juana by Carla Lucero playing the Title Role with Dell'Arte Opera Ensemble. Past performances are the Immersive Theatrical Experience "Voyeur: The Windows of Toulouse-Lautrec" with Bated Breath Theater Company, "Aria Throwdown" with Dell'Arte Opera Ensemble,"Iemanjá Project" with International Brazilian Opera Company, the operas Waiting for the rain (Lead Role - Hildegard Von Bingen), Prima la musica e poi le parole (Poeta), L’enfant et les sortilèges (Chinese tea cup and Dragonfly), Dialogues of the Carmelites (Sister Anne), A Game of Chance (Third Lady), the Young Artist Program Premiere Opera International in Italy, the Conducting Workshop with The String Orchestra of Brooklyn and The Messiah at Lincoln Center with the DCINY’s Orchestra (Distinguished Concerts International New York).

She has been working as the Alto Section Leader of St. Monica Church on the Upper East Side and has recently released her debut EP "Unmasking".

VOICE LESSONS

Flávia Darcie Voice Studio

As a Voice Teacher, I create an environment that is supportive, nurturing and safe, always wanting my students to have a pleasant time learning. In the lessons, the two main pillars of vocal art are covered, Technique and Expressivity, helping the students develop their artistry in a healthy way. Because of my diverse background in different artistic fields, as a conductor, a pianist, actress, choir singer and opera singer, I'm able to teach music in a more comprehensive way, helping the students explore their songs from many angles.

Teaching philosophy: I believe that the role of a teacher is to provide the students with the tools for them to become their own teachers, meaning, being able to trust their ears, their sensations, their instincts, and knowing how to use these tools. That is how they will find their own voices as artists.

Lessons can be taught in English or Portuguese.
